I was actually visiting this location to do a portrait of the farm for
a client but when I saw this scene I had to paint it first. It was,
in fact, the first snowfall of the year and I was captivated by the
abstract shapes and the almost monochrome shades of color. The large
stones had been dragged off the field by horses generations before and
there seemed to me a duality to the scene - The paths that had been
cleared by the past and the newness of the first snowfall.
